Breaking the Taboo

29th Jan 2025

Living with an internal pouch can feel isolating, but by sharing our stories, we aim to help others feel supported and heard.

In a recent edition of Chat magazine, IA volunteer Julia opened up about her experiences with ulcerative colitis, life-changing surgeries, and adjusting to life with her J-pouch.

Her story is inspiring and plays a crucial role in raising awareness. Life doesn’t stop after a diagnosis – it evolves. With the right support, such as that offered by our fabulous IA volunteers, we aim to help those who have an ileostomy or an internal pouch regain their confidence and be their best self.

As Julia’s husband Darren reminds her, everyone has to poo, so let’s keep talking and work together to break the stigma around bowel health!
