Effective Communication Skills – become a One2One Support Volunteer

4th Sep 2025

Upcoming course dates: Saturday 25 – 26 October 2025 AND Saturday 22 November 2025 (attendance of all dates is mandatory to complete the training)

Are you interested in helping others? Have you got what it takes to listen to someone share their concerns about living with an ileostomy or internal pouch and can offer a friendly ear and a guiding voice? IA is looking for more One2One (O2O) Support Volunteers and if this sounds like you, why not apply to attend our upcoming training.

IA is running an Effective Communication Skills course in October and November 2025 offering the opportunity to train as a O2O Support Volunteer. Our Support Volunteers can be a vital support to many who are due to undergo, or have had, surgery and have lifestyle-based questions that they want to talk through with someone who understands; someone who has been through surgery and someone who has had a similar experience or shares a similar background, for example in their chosen career path or leisure interests, to which they can relate.

Being a One2One Support Volunteer is not just about answering someone else’s questions or telling someone else how to manage their stoma or pouch. The role offers an opportunity to listen to the concerns of others, understand them and support or encourage them to see a way forward.

Anyone applying for this course needs to be a member of IA and be at least 12 months post completion of surgery.

For more information see the attached flyer or contact IA national office on 0800 0184 724 to discuss and register your interest.
